It's really TOO big to use as a "swaddle" blanket on any normal sized newborn, and the hat is quite large, also. I'd say it's more of a 4 to 6 month old size, and by that time, they don't really need swaddling anymore...
When I did attempt to swaddle her in the blanket, she kicked right out of it - the stretchy t-shirt type material is just too loosey-goosey to stay put.
If you're just wanting this for cute pictures, I can highly recommend it for that purpose, but as a practical item - go with the Kiddopotamus swaddle blanket brand for $9.99 - they're sold on Amazon and they're amazing.
Bottom line? Amazingly CUTE, but highly IMPRACTICAL as a real swaddle blanket set.
