OK, the love part: I have three of these bodysuits, and they are lovely. The fit is snug but has ample stretch, enough to allow for some wiggle room with the sizing. My 16 lb. 5 month-old is still comfortable in the size 3-6, but also fits great in the 6-12. The snug fit makes them look clean and crisp when worn alone and not bulky when worn under other clothes, so they're ideal pieces for layering. The stretchy and soft bamboo feels great on the skin, and the colors are great. These are my favorite Kicky Pants item so far, and I own many.
For those of you who are not familiar with the brand and are hesitant to try it, be it the price or feeling overwhelmed by so many other options out there, I highly recommend starting with the Kicky Pants onesies, either short or long-sleeved. They rock.
Here comes part where I explain what I mean by "Kicky Pants is the brand I hate to love." There are some definite drawbacks with this brand. To make this easier to read I'll make a list:
1. Don't put these in the drier. The brand wins points for not having to wash on delicate cycle - it's not necessary if your machine doesn't have an agitator. But be careful with drying; while the washing instructions might say it's cool to tumble dry, really it's not. Don't do it. ALWAYS hang these babies to dry, or lay flat. The drier makes the fabric lose its smooth appearance and seems to thin - and thus weaken - it. Having to always air dry is an inconvenience in that you must wait a while between washes to be able to use your favorite clothes again, which stinks because you will want to put these on your baby before anything else once you see how nice they are. Bamboo fabric is naturally absorbent, which means it takes a while to dry. For me it's worth the wait; I prefer air-drying most clothes anyway, but not everyone feels like hanging half their wash to dry. So, there's that.
2. Bamboo viscose tears/snags pretty easily. I have some KP pieces that have little holes in them. We are not rough with our clothes; we have an agitator-free washer, hang them to dry, the whole nine, and still get holes. These are mostly on the pieces with lots of snaps, for example the KP coveralls. If you are worried about this, try to avoid pieces with lots of snaps because they seem to be a point of weakness for the fabric, and in the middle of a nighttime diaper change you might not be inclined to ever-so-gently unsnap your baby's onesie.
3. My third and probably biggest issue is: dun-dun-dun: Made in China. Come on, get with it, KP! I would gladly pay $10 more for this if it were made in USA. Bamboo is considered a more environmentally-friendly choice than cotton, even organic cotton, but when you have to schlep it all over creation to get to consumers, the eco-savings seem moot.
So, overall, I recommend. Just know when purchasing KP that in order to make them last, they require extra care, and that they are made in China.
